Bug Reports
LWCAD 5.5 seems to have a lot of little bugs in general

hi,

lots of great new tools and features in 5.5 (using it in lw 2018 )! thanks!

but this does seem to be a kind of rough version without the polish that i was used to seeing in the last version of lwcad i was using (3.6 in lw 9.61).

  • projection snapping doesn't seem to work. i don't get projection lines anymore from second snap.
  • in extrude, "groupping" is mispelled. should be "grouping". also, the grouping option does NOT change while the tool is active. i have to change the setting, drop the tool, then start the tool again.
  • scaling of profile, engraving and stair steps work great and is very useful to me now since the show that i use lwcad on is NOT built to real world scale unfortunately - BUT, there seem to be very hard limits to how much you can scale things like elements, doors, windows and furniture and such... specifically, there seems to be a limit to how small these things can get before certain parts of the element that are meant to remain proportional stop responding to scale. ideally, these proportional elements can get as big or as small as desired by the user.

thanks.

First, please download and install version 5.51

  • projection problem was fixed with 5.51 hot patch
  • sorry for the "grouping" misspell. But function is working exactly as it was intended. Grouping works only for a new selection, not working to already selected. This is done on purpose that way.
  • LWCAD is archviz suite, intended for precise archviz projects. So real world tools have to produce real-world objects, specially in archviz part.

If you'll find any other problem, please report it.
Thanks!

hi viktor,

  • oh cool. had no idea there was a fix. great!
  • oh interesting. this did not work as i expected. maya has a similar toggle with their extrude function but when you change the toggle, it affects what you're currently extruding. if you want to do a different kind of extrude with a different toggle setting, you have to finish the first extrude operation then do another and change the settings there. there are trade-offs with each method but i can learn to adapt here. thanks!
  • totally understood. but for example, in my current project, i was handed a structure built in maya which i brought into lw to use lwcad on it. the model comes into lw in non real world scale. you made the modifications on the stairs tools so that i can freely scale stair step depth and height so that i can use it at any scale and that was fantastic and was able to create a great looking spiral staircase according to our needs in no time. i was able to do this because you didn't lock the scales so that they only allowed variations that would realistically occur in real world scale.

would you consider making all the tools like this? without locking the user into real world scales?

as with the stairs tool not being locked, i don't think offering this flexibility makes anything worse or less accurate. it only gives the user greater flexibility.

it just gives the users ability to use your tool on assets that have weird scales upon conversion from different software, projects where the scale was deliberately or inadvertently set to non real world, as well as on assets that are actually small like a fairy town or a scale model/railroad model in the story.

and it should not be very difficult to simply take the "lock" off lower and upper bounds.

and i understand that the user can scale everything they do to real world scales to use lwcad... but imo, there's no reason not to let lwcad bend to the user here instead of making the user bend to lwcad.

this would be super useful to me so i make the request. but it's entirely your decision of course.

thanks much!

I will be probably forced to update LWCAD having global scale.
Specially because of 3dsmax version.
But not this year.
